back to hot flat florida

i had such an awesome time in virginia, i usually always do. i really love the mountains & how green & lush everything is there. i got off the plane this morning in florida in my va gear- jeans, boots, long sleeves, hoodie & about had a heat stroke. & then almost fell asleep driving a straight flat line home from the airport. florida is boring. unless you're on the beach.

i got in alot of quaint, hilly, foresty, historic virginia-ness this weekend. which is always appreciated.

the weekend with the dancers was awesome! we had a blast! such a great group.... hard working, funny, smart.... i'm so pleased with all that we accomplished in such a short time. the piece turned out perfectly!

lexington is beautiful, i stayed at this awesome inn.... family run, fantastic restaurant & walking distance to everything. the campus is beautiful & i even walked down to vmi- virginia military institute. i miss having friendly walking areas..... hard to find around here.

so my hubby ran across this poster today. looking forward to working with the dancers next week. i'm gonna have to get alot done in a short amount of time. i like working under pressure. (only slight sarcasm intended)

in other news, my hubby also had a briefing today about THE MOVE...... well, apparently we have to fly out of baltimore/dc, because that's where tech school is...... which is a nice 1000 miles away from home. & of course the AF won't pay for our travel between tech school & the flight to guam. & we're trying to figure out when/ if to ship the car - our only means of transportation besides j's old bmx bike, which would make for a funny couple of weeks. should we just try to sell the car & hope to buy one there? figuring out how to get home after his graduation, then back to baltimore/dc, how many days of leave should we take, when do the movers come, blah blah blah.

it's crazy amounts of planning. i told j tonight that "this will be the mother of all moves"- our first pcs, overseas, & from tech school (orders coming a mere month - if we're lucky- ahead of time) so the remedy for this overwhelming move is lists, wine, long baths, more lists, more wine & trust that many have been through this before & no matter what, we will get over there.

inside a dance phrase

so, as of now, i'm still working. & today i went into the studio to work on some phrases for an upcoming residency. i don't really think it should be called a residency, because i'm only there wed-sun, but for lack of a better word that's what i'm calling it.

i'm to set a piece on the dancers at washington & lee univ. in va. i get to see my friend jenny who i used to work with at rbt. & i like that i get to create something new before i leave/ take my break from dance.

it's weird to think about not dancing & i have days where i know i'll still dance, maybe in guam, maybe guest gigs, maybe after guam & then there are days where this change really feels permanent, like what if i find something else i want to do, what if we have babies, what if i get so far removed from the dance world i can't come back? i am getting older & after 2 knee surgeries & so many other sprains & pains, it might not be so easy to get my dance back.

but i have today & today i danced.......
